Shelby Township Dentist Discusses Crowns vs Veneers
Hi, I’m Dr. Heather Pranzarone Stratton a dentist in Shelby Township, Michigan. We see a lot of patients from Oakland and Macomb counties and I wanted to talk a little bit today about the difference between crowns and veneers.
We have a lot of patients that ask, “so what exactly is the difference between a crown versus a veneer, would I be a candidate for veneers, would I be a candidate for crowns.” So I just wanted to go over some of that information. The main difference between a crown and veneer is a veneer, a lot of people consider it like a contact lens of porcelain that fits over the front side of your teeth. And doing that makes your teeth look whiter, straighter. They can change the shape of your teeth, if you have spaces between your teeth. It can close up spaces between your teeth. And so it’s a really nice conservative way of preserving a lot of nice, healthy tooth structure. And getting a really nice beautiful cosmetic result at the end of it.
A crown is a little bit different in terms of, we have to take a little bit more tooth structure off of the main portion of the tooth itself. And when we do that, we can change a lot more of your smile design. We could change if you have a lot of crowding or a lot of rotated teeth. We can change them a little bit more with crowns. So people say, well, I don’t want a veneer, I don’t want crowns. And I always tell my patients, that’s great.
We’ll do absolutely whatever we can with what you want to do. But sometimes people are better candidate for one or the other. So you get the same beautiful smile with either one, it just depends what you’re particular case is.
