Hi, I’m Doctor Heather Pranzarone Stratton at HPS Advanced Dental Care, located in Macomb County, in Shelby Township, Michigan. I wanted to talk a little bit about cosmetic dentistry today, specifically bonding on your teeth.
People want to know specifically what is bonding and what does that mean? Bonding is basically filling material that we put on your teeth, it’s basically cosmetic filling material. It’s the same filling material that we use to put the fillings in your teeth. So, it’s all BPA-free. We know it’s some of the most biologically compatible filling material that is on the market.
It’s recommended to us by the IAOMT which is the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, is one of those biologically compatible materials. But basically what we do is people who maybe have some chipping on their front teeth, or maybe they have some spaces between their front teeth. Even if they’re not really happy with some of the staining that they have on their front teeth that whitening couldn’t take care of, we can put some bonding or some composite filling material on those front teeth to smooth out those jagged edges, to fill in those spaces. Veneers can also do something like this. Bonding is a little bit more cost-effective option of doing that and often times with younger people we don’t really want to be putting a veneer or something on their teeth because they might still be growing or whatnot. So we do bonding on people’s front teeth. I actually have bonding on my own front teeth and I’ve had it for years.
The benefit of bonding is usually you don’t have to remove any or much natural tooth structure if at all. And it’s very non-invasive. You don’t have to get numb. There are no injections involved or anything like that. We just go ahead and we smooth off the rough edges of your teeth. That was my problem. I had rough edges on the edges of my teeth from years of grinding. And then what we do is we match the color of your teeth, put the bonding on them, so that the shape is very nice. The shade or the color of them is very nice. If there are spaces, we can close those spaces. When you come here you might not be really happy with your teeth and anywhere from 10 minutes to, maybe, an hour or two, depending on how many teeth you want bonded, you leave with a smile that you’re confident and you’re proud of.
So it’s a great, affordable solution to straighten your teeth or whiten your teeth, or smooth your teeth or, whatever the situation is, bonding can be used in a lot of different situations. So it’s a great cosmetic technique that we can do to make you proud of your teeth again.
